Floor Treatment

Below are images of tile treated to avoid slipping on tiled
wet floor.
Problem: Floor tile was placed by
homeowner in kitchen not realizing how slippery it could
be when wet. With a swimming pool right outside the kitchen, it was
not seldom that people with wet feet walked on the tiled
area and had a few close calls on slipping and falling.
Solution: Chemical etching to
reduce the tile's sleakness without changing the look of the
tile and avoiding the homeowner to have to replace tiled
floor. Testing: Followed the container's
intructions. Observed tile under the SEM using secondary
electron imaging to show the morphology and topography
of sample.
Results: The tile's
grains are more visible after the etching. No damage to the tile from the solution is
observed. The treated tile has been colorized just for
fun. |
